Traditional camp programs offer a special summer camp experience for young burn survivors. By bringing these survivors together, the camp allows them to share common experiences, play, and explore life without feeling self-conscious about their scars. This supportive environment helps them make new friends and realize they are not alone in their journey.
A burn camp is specialized retreat or summer camp designed to support children, teens, and young adults who have suffered severe burn injuries. These camps provide a therapeutic environment where participants can heal emotionally, physically, and socially after experiencing traumatic burn injuries.
Burn camps have been an essential resource for burn survivors, offering a variety of benefits.
The Mississippi Burn Camp typically accept children, teens, and young adults who have suffered significant burns, including those with third-degree burns or severe scarring. While the specific age range can vary by camp, most focus on children between 6 and 18 years old.
Many burn camps are funded by donations, community support, and nonprofit organizations, making them affordable or free for participants. This ensures that all burn survivors, regardless of financial means, can attend.
